Initiative of the Alliance of Hispanic Serving Research Universities (HSRU): HSRU Postdoctoral Fellowship Cohort Program

The HSRU Postdoctoral Fellowship Cohort Program seeks current postdocs interested in being faculty at HSIs. This one-year, cohort-based program cultivates excellence in both research and teaching by preparing participants for tenure-track positions and catalyzing their journey toward academic leadership and professional distinction. Postdoctoral students of any background may apply to participate in this program.

The UNM Internal deadline for receipt of postdoc applications for the 2026-2027 cohort is December 1, 2025.

 

Application components:

Statement of interest in the program from a current UNM postdoc (approximately 500-1000 words)

  • Describe your interest in pursuing the professoriate at a Hispanic-serving, research intensive institution (see hsru.org for more information)
  • Describe your interest in the program’s professional development components and how they contribute to scholarly goals.
  • Illustrate how you intend to benefit from and contribute to the cohort.
  • Affirm commitment to full participation in HSRU postdoc program activities.

Research interests and scholarly profile (approx. 500 words)

  • Project title and description (e.g., general overview and significance) (200-400 words).
  • Principal investigator (PI) or research lead information name and title.
  • Research advisor name and title (if different from PI).
  • Overview of the scholar’s research interests and research accomplished to date.
  • Describe your future research and career goals.
  • Length of time in postdoctoral role and time remaining as of August 1, 2026
  • Current curriculum vitae


Research advisor support letter

  • Describe candidate qualities and why they are an ideal candidate for the program.
  • Letter or statement from the individual, typically a research advisor or PI, responsible for approving the postdoctoral scholar’s time allocation to the program. “Protected time” to participate in the program is a program requirement.
  • Affirm that the postdoc will be appointed at UNM in AY2026-27.
  • Optional: Provide a mentorship plan – a mentorship plan should be prepared in support of the postdoctoral fellow’s participation in the program. If the plan (or a draft) is available for submittal, applicants are welcome and encouraged to attach.

Additional letter of reference (optional)

  • Describe candidate qualities and why they are an ideal candidate for the program.

Eligibility

  • Demonstrate strong interest in pursuing faculty career at an R1-HSI
  • Provide evidence of promise for tenure-track appointment
  • Have at least one year remaining in current postdoc appointment as of August 2026
  • Commit to full participation in the HSRU postdoc cohort program activities
