Alejandra Lemus

Biography



lemus.pngAlejandra Lemus is a doctoral student at the University of New Mexico's sociology department. She moved from Texas to Albuquerque two years ago to begin her doctoral program. She grew up in Juarez, Chihuahua, and El Paso, Tx. She is currently a research assistant for the Immigrant Well-being Project, supervised by Dr. Jessica Goodkind, and for UNM's Division of Equity and Inclusion, supervised by Dr. Assata Zerai. 

Her research focuses on immigrant health and reproduction, using reproductive justice and transnational feminist frameworks. Particularly, she is interested in examining the intersections of race, gender, and legal status in reproductive healthcare utilization and experiences. She also has casework experience in a non-profit where she connected pregnant migrant women to health services throughout the US.
