In an effort to continue to address campus climate at the University of New Mexico, the Division for Equity and Inclusion will present two workshops on Monday, October 17th with the Rev. Dr. Jamie Washington, the President and Founder of the Washington Consulting Group (WCG), a Multicultural Organizational Development firm and the President and Founder of the Social Justice Trai
ning Institute. Washington was named by the Economist as one of the Top 10 Global Diversity Consultants in the world, only one of two from the US.   Dr. Washington has served as an educator, administrator, and consultant in higher education for over 32 years.

Rev. Dr. Washington will provide a Keynotefrom 1pm-2:30pm in SUB Ballroom C on Creating and Sustaining Social Justice Institutional Change for UNM Staff, Students and Faculty.

An additional workshop will be held from 3:30pm-5pm in Stamm Commons Room 104 at the School of Engineering on the Conflict Within: Working with Historically Oppressed Populations in Healing and Action.

More About Dr. Jamie Washington

Rev. Dr. Jamie Washington serves as the President and Founder of the Washington Consulting Group (WCG), a Multicultural Organizational Development Firm out of Baltimore, MD.   In October of 2015, WCG was named by the Economist as 1 of the Top 10 Global Diversity Consultants in the world, and one of two selected from the US.  Dr. Washington has served as an educator, administrator, and consultant in higher education for over 32 years.  Dr. Washington serves as the President and a Founder of the Social Justice Training Institute and has served as Visiting Professor of Salem State University.

  • Dr. Washington serves as the Chair of the board for Many Voices, A Black Church Movement for LGBT person: on the faculty of Camp Pride and a board member Campus Pride, and Beyond Diversity.  He serves as a trustee for the American College Personnel Association. He is on the faculty of Lancaster Theological Seminary Summer Academy and on the board for Vanderbilt School of Divinity Creating Welcoming Churches project and serves on the Advisory Board for the LGBT History Museum.  He also serves as a Lead faculty member with Leadershape, Lead365, and proud member of ODK.
  • Dr. Washington earned his B.S. degree from Slippery Rock State College, and a double Masters' of Science degrees from Indiana University/Bloomington.  He holds a Ph.D. is in College Student Development, from the University of Maryland College Park. Dr. Washington also holds a Masters of Divinity from Howard University School of Divinity.
  • He is a writer, speaker, coach, consultant, teacher and trainer. He has spoken all over the US, as well as in Canada and South Africa.  He is a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc, the Co Pastor of Unity Fellowship church of Baltimore and shares his life with his partner the Rev. Sam Offer and is the proud grandfather of 7 and great uncle to 5.
  • Known as  “The Engagement Specialist”, he sees himself as an instrument of change.  He works everyday to help people find the best in themselves and others.  He lives by the words of one of his favorite songs:

 If I can help somebody as I Pass along,

If I can cheer somebody with a word or song,

If I can show somebody that he, she, or Zi has traveled wrong,
