Dr. Teresita Aguilar, Provost, New Mexico Highlands University and Dr. Jozi De Leon, VP for Equity and Inclusion, University of New Mexico are pleased to announce the 2nd Annual Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Summit for New Mexico 2-year, 4-year, and Tribal Institutions on June 8-9, 2015 at New Mexico Highlands University  in Las Vegas, New Mexico.

2015 Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Summit

Purpose of Summit:

To initiate discussions about how New Mexico's institutions of higher education can serve an increasingly diverse student population. This includes enrollment by race/ethnic groups in increasing numbers, meeting the needs of New Mexico's diverse groups, gender shifts of the college-going population from majority male to female, LGBT and non-traditional student needs, veterans returning to college and increasing access for individuals with disabilities, and a focus on internalization.

Expected Outcomes:

  1. Participants will gain insight from national and state data.
  2. Participants will identify what the needs may be on their campuses.
  3. Participants will establish strategies for how they might address diversity and engage internal and external communities in those conversations.
  4. Participants will determine how they will continue to engage in additional conversations with NM institutions of higher education to address diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Viles & Crimmin Residence Hall has private and suite-style rooms with private bedrooms shared bath and common suite area with a refrigerator. There are four types of suite-styles: one bedroom, one bath; two bedrooms, one bath; two bedroom, two baths; and four bedroom, two baths. 274 beds available, $35 single.

A NMHU Courtesy Rate is being offered at the Historic Plaza Hotel. Reservations can be made by calling the front desk at (505) 425-3591, the online system does not allow for the special rate. Rates begin at $65 one queen bed, $75 two queen beds, $85 premium king bed (overlooks park), $95 premium Victorian double (2 queen beds, overlooks park), $105 Victorian Parlor Double (2 queen beds, sitting area and overlooks park).
