The Division for Equity and Inclusion at the University of New Mexico is currently seeking two (2) graduate assistants to assist with diversity related project initiatives.

Graduate Research Assistant Position

DEI seeks a graduate research assistant who will work on a variety of tasks related to exploring, explaining, and promoting information related to diversity, equity, and inclusion at the University of New Mexico and greater Albuquerque.  The duties outlined below will allow the GA to gain applied experience in Language, Literacy, & Sociocultural Studies (LLSS), Educational Leadership, Public Administration, and Sociology.  Duties include the following but are not limited to:

  • Assist the VP for Equity and Inclusion with data entry, analysis, and reporting
  • Infographics
  • Work with staff members on projects as needed
  • Work with diverse student, staff, and faculty populations as well as in the community
  • Conduct asset mapping
  • Assist with the completion of the Inclusive Excellence Progress Report
  • Work with various data stewards to ensure that we receive diversity data
  • Assist with written narratives about data implications

Requirements for consideration

  • Graduate student in good academic standing
  • Availability for work during fall 2016 through spring 2017
  • Available to work up to 30 hours per week
  • Available for occasional evening and weekend events
  • Attendance at all bi-weekly staff meetings during the academic year
  • Enrollment in a minimum of 6 credit hours in MA or PhD program
  • Experience working with sensitive data
  • Experience with Excel

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to work independently and in small groups

Graduate Marketing/Communications Assistant Position

DEI seeks a graduate assistant who will work on a variety of tasks related to the marketing and communications related to diversity, equity, and inclusion at the University of New Mexico and greater Albuquerque.  The duties outlined below will allow the GA to gain applied experience in Communications, Language, Literacy, & Sociocultural Studies (LLSS), Educational Leadership, Public Administration, and Sociology.  Duties include the following but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Division for Equity and Inclusion in the planning, development and coordination of internal and external communication projects, programs and outreach events of key significance to DEI,
  • Is able to use graphics, infographics and visual formats to communicate information
  • Provides professional assistance and support to Administration in the planning, design, development, and management of strategic, at times sensitive, communications projects and initiatives.
  • Writes, edits, and reviews public relations materials for Administration and senior management, to include fact sheets, articles, newsletters, speeches and other informational materials
  • Assists in coordination of production and publication of public relations materials and other related communications
  • Participate in establishment, design and implementation of communications projects and events to include comprehensive writing projects, web content, presentations and related activities.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of DEI’s web presence
  • Creates enhancements and modifications to web sites; organizes and assists in the maintenance of sites
  • Programs HTML, uploads pages to web sites and maintains site as needed
  • Work with staff members on projects as needed
  • Work with diverse student, staff, and faculty populations as well as in the community

  • Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate multiple projects
  • Knowledge of communication principles, media and marketing techniques
  • Ability to create, compose and edit written materials
  • Knowledge and understanding of authoring languages, editing and authoring tools, and related website technologies
  • Skill in computer graphics and layout
  • Knowledge of html, dhtml, css, JavaScript, PHP, web page creation, and web site maintenance
  • High level of professionalism and adherence to strict confidentiality
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
  • Proficient in Adobe Programs
  • Ability to work independently and in small groups
  • Experience working with diverse communities and groups
